Laptop Ninja
A blog FOR Laptop Ninjas, not about them. A Laptop Ninja is a cousin of the more common Web Ronin. As a solitary figure who's skills with computer technology and design, the Laptop Ninja survives by performing contract work from cafes, public parks, and sometimes rooftops. The Laptop Ninja's sword is his 802.11 connection, his iPod his throwing stars, and his Bluetooth cellphone his Nunchucks. All of which are usually carried in a discreet messenger bag. IM

Lamest/Coolest Game Ever
I don't really know what to say about this one. This game is an old look at an almost as old classic.

Pac TXT is just as it sounds, it's Pac-man in a text adventure form. Just don't forget to look around.....

CBC Notices Western Canada!
Have the powers that be in the self descibed 'centre of the universe' actually noticed that people outside of Toronto own HD TVs? Not a single western conference game has been aired since Hockey Night in Canda first started broadcasting in HD (and only that one because it was the Heritage Classic featuring the habs), so it comes as a suprise that this story from the Globe & Mail mentions the CBC will be broadcasting BOTH HNIC games in HD starting this weekend.

What's even weirder is that the NHL Schedule only mentions HD for the western game (Flames vs. Canucks). I can't believe that they would give the west the only HD equiped broadcaast truck available, I also would have never guessed that anyone at the CBC could find Vancouver on a map, so I'll keep my fingers crossed 'till Saturday!

More Hope in Canadian Number Portability
Looks like March 15th is the day that many of us Canadian Laptop Ninjas have been waiting for(though it's a CRTC deadline so I know not to get too excited). After ignoring the issue, hoping it would take care of itself, and letting it slip, the CRTC has set March 14th as the deadline for number portability in Canada. For thos who don't know, munber portability will let you as a customer take a phone number with you when you switch cell carriers, the number you've come to be identified with will no longer be held at ransom.

The big implication of this isn't that there will be a mass rush of people switching carriers as sooon as they're allowed to, it's that the cell companies will have one less thing to keep you paying them in spite of their horrible service and offerings. So what does that mean for the carriers? After March 14th they'll have to win and keep your business the old fashion way, with service, products, and an overall experiance that is preferable to that of their competitors. Imagine that.

Beware though, you can bet that companies will be pushing long-term contracts on phones pretty hard as the deading approches. Don't get caught.

The Time Fountain

The fine folks at Engadget point to this little DIY project that makes time stop, or even reverse. OK, not time in it's entirety, but at least so far as its effect on a drop of water. Strobes, pumps, flourescent dye, it's all quite simple but difficult to explain. Be sure to watch the video after the jump to the Time Fountain site.

Hide your Cats

OH CWAP! We're all aware that robots are getting smarter every day and their eventual dominance over the human race is only a matter of time. The big question has always been weather or not the dolpins will beat them to it.

Now another threat has ~ahem~ surfaced in the goldfish community who, with the help of their unwitting human patsy, have developed the means to dominate land just as they've dominated the world's decorative ponds and glassware.
The 'Terrornaut' (OK, it's actually called a Teranaut, but I like my name better) is basically a fish Tricycle that moves wherever the fish swims. Oh the humanity.

Optimus Prime a Communist?
Mac vs. PC, GSM vs CDMA, PHP vs ASP, there are many things that tear Laptop Ninjas apart, but one thing we can all agree with is that Optimus Prime is pretty much the coolest character of all time. If you don't think so, please leave my site.

Hovever, it seem that just like his saturday morning contemporaries The Smurfs, he is also a communist, at least he likes to chill in China when he's not kicking Decepticon Ass. Deep in the heart of the Yunnan Provice stands a (lifesize?) statue of the the greatest leader of all time.

Just like Mecca, I predict that we'll start seeing thirty something fanboys making pilgrimages to this remote location just to see this awesome testament to the keeper of the Matrix. I know I'm booking my tickets now.

As for his political leanings, we can't say this is a suprise. I mean, it may seem a little weird, but if the Autobots are the ideological opposite of the Decepticons then they have to be communist. The Decepticons are a finely tuned military machine that is waging war and killing the environment to satisfy their thirst for 'Engergon' without any regard for the wellbeing of the planet or other cultures. Now who does that remind you of?

Forget Sleeping on Clouds, Mag-Lev your Bed!

Looking for a better sleep? Got $1.5 million kicking around in your bedroom redecorating budget?
This new bed from a crazy Dutch designer floats above the floor teathered only by a few thin cables. Just don't take your laptop anywhere near your bedroom.

If $1.5 million is a little steep, you can also get a pet-sized bed for about a tenth the price, seriously.
